Staff will return to school on Monday, January 17th and students will return to school on Tuesday, January 18th. Student lunches will be provided each day. Dear Adults of Super Throopers, This is a friendly reminder that illnesses and accompanying symptoms should be reported to the nurse’s office at Throop when a student is absent. Our nursing staff is well aware of illnesses that are currently affecting Throop students and their accompanying classes. The nursing staff will help determine steps and the appropriate timeline to get students back to school - that’s what we all want. Please do your part to help us mitigate the spread of all infections at Throop: COVID, flu, strep, and several others. Thank you for your help. To report an illness and its accompanying symptoms please call 812-723-3537. If you contact a teacher to report an absence, please expect to be contacted by the Throop nursing staff.

Hello Ram Families! This is Superintendent Greg Walker with a Friday update. I want to thank all our students and staff for adapting to our temporary mask requirement. The goal of that requirement seems to be working. We had two students and one staff member who tested positive this week for Covid-19 and since we have a temporary mask requirement in place, we had to quarantine zero students for being a close contact. We do have 24 students who are quarantined for being a close contact to someone outside of school. Thanks to everyone for their cooperation, God Bless, and Go Rams!

Hello Ram Families! This is Superintendent Greg Walker with an important update. At this evening’s regular monthly meeting of the Paoli Community School Corporation Board of School Trustees, in an effort to minimize the number of students who are excluded from school due to contact tracing and quarantine guidelines, the board voted to implement a temporary mask requirement for pre-K-12 students and staff effective tomorrow, September 14th through October 18th, their next scheduled regular monthly board meeting. The board will review data gathered at that time and will remove the mask requirement if warranted. It is our hope that after this short four week span, we will be able to do that. Thank you and go Rams.

Hello Ram Families! This is Superintendent Greg Walker with a Friday update. Paoli Community Schools will return to in-person instruction on Monday, August 30th. Close to half of the students who were quarantined last Friday are eligible to return on Monday, with many more scheduled to come back during the week. Dr. Lopez and the County Health Department have approved the following adjustment to our close contact and quarantine guidelines: In an effort to minimize the number of students excluded from school due to being a “close contact” to someone who tests positive for Covid-19, Paoli Community Schools will utilized the following Indiana Department of Health updated guidance, which has been approved by Dr. Lopez and the Orange County Health Department: Identification and listing of close contacts. A close contact is defined as any individual within 6 feet of an infected person (laboratory confirmed or probable case) for a total of 15 minutes or more within a 24-hour period. Exception to the close contact definition: In the K-12 indoor classroom setting, the definition excludes students who were 3 to 6 feet of an infected student (laboratory confirmed or a clinically compatible illness) if both the infected student and the exposed student(s) correctly and consistently wore well-fitting masks the entire time. This exception does not apply to teachers, staff, or other adults in the classroom setting. In summary: Unvaccinated students who are a close contact to an infected student in a classroom will not have to be quarantined if they are wearing a mask AND the infected person is wearing a mask. Teachers will document who is wearing a mask when taking attendance. This goes into effect August 30, 2021 and does not apply to students who are currently quarantined. Wearing a mask is still optional, but strongly recommended. Unvaccinated students who chose to wear a mask will have less chance of being quarantined. Parents please keep your child home if they are having any Covid-19 symptoms. Thank you, God Bless, and Go Rams!

Hello Ram Families, this is Superintendent Greg Walker with a Friday update. As you probably have heard, the number of Covid-19 cases and large number of quarantine students at Paoli Jr/Sr High School has forced me to make the decision to switch from in-person to virtual learning next week, August 23 -27. We currently have 25 active positive students at PHS and 265 students in quarantine, which is 44% of our student body. We are starting to see cases at Throop Elementary with 6 active positive students and 103 students in quarantine. We are hopeful that by separating the students for a week we can slow the spread at PHS and mitigate the spread at Throop. ECA activities and practices will continue as normal at this time. Grab-and-Go lunches will be available to students between 10:00 am and 1:00 pm daily in the cafeteria of each school. We will assess things next Friday and hopefully return to in-person instruction on Monday, August 30th. This is not the way we had envisioned the school year starting, but it is the hand we have been dealt and we will continue to move forward. I apologize for any inconvenience this causes and appreciate everyone’s support as we work our way through this issue I also want to address some false information that was posted on social media yesterday that the school was not following the directions from Dr. Lopez and the health department. This is ABSOLUTELY FALSE. After speaking with Dr. Lopez last evening, he assured me that he had not relayed anything even close to that to anyone. Have a great weekend, God Bless, and Go Rams!

Hello Ram Families! This is Superintendent Greg Walker with a Friday update. This has been a challenging week for our students, staff, and families as positive Covid cases led to many having to quarantine. Our junior high was hit especially hard. Trust me when I say the last thing we want to do is to send kids home from school. However, we are bound to follow Indiana Communicable Disease laws which state “Asymptomatic individuals, unless fully vaccinated or recovered from a COVID-19 infection within the last 90 days, who are identified as a close contact of a COVID-19 case shall quarantine, including exclusion from schools, preschools, daycare settings, employment, and public places.” . You can assist us by keeping your child home from school if they are displaying ANY symptoms of Covid-19. If you have questions you may contact the school nurse. Please understand that we are behind on cleaning up unexcused absences and are working diligently to get caught up. Thank you for your patience and understanding. Have a great weekend and GO RAMS!

Hello Ram Families, this is Superintendent Greg Walker with a Covid update. With the current increase in Covid cases in the county, Dr. Lopez, our county health doctor, is strongly recommending that students and staff wear masks during the school day. Employees, parents, and students still can make the personal choice to not wear them, but they are strongly recommended to help curb the spread of Covid. As with last year, this is a very fluid situation and can change at a moment's notice. I will keep you informed as we move forward. Thank you, God Bless, and go Rams.

Please remember that if you plan to send your student home to a location other than your home, the bus driver needs an address and phone number for reference. Please make sure that if you are changing transportation plans that all information is shared with teachers or office staff. Thank you for taking this measure in order to make sure all our students return home safely at the end of the school day.

Good Evening Super Throoper Families! I have just a few updates as we ready for Wednesday's return to in-person instruction at Throop Elementary School. Please remember that masks, while recommended, are optional. However, contact tracing still applies to positive cases of COVID-19 identified at Throop. If a student is determined to be a close contact (within 6 feet for 15 minutes or more) the student will have to serve a quarantine period (14 days). Mrs. Emme Moore, Paoli Community School Nurse, will be our source for information where quarantining is concerned. Water bottles containing water only should be provided for your student, if possible. Water fountains will again be limited to bottle filling stations. Meet and Greet will take place at Throop Elementary tomorrow evening from 5:00 - 6:30. Please remember that we did not have this event last year and would like to promote the partnership between Throop and our families. The best way to insure that these family events may occur this school year is to be aware of social distancing and remain respectful of those who choose to wear a mask during the event. With student health in mind, parents will NOT be allowed into Throop on the first day of school. Please take the opportunity to get a picture of your child at his/her desk during Meet and Greet as you will not be able to do so on Wednesday morning. Thank you for your patience and understanding. With your help, this school year will be GREAT! Amanda Crews, Principal Throop Elementary School
