Nursing Office Protocols
Throop
Students may visit the school nurse’s office if they become sick or injured while at school. Students must present to the nurse’s office with a written note or with a staff member. Students who meet exclusion criteria will be sent home from the nurse’s office. Exclusion criteria for school can be found here: How Sick is Too Sick Document. Students should not be sent home for health related issues without first going through the nurse’s office or as otherwise instructed by administration. Students who do not meet exclusion criteria for school will return to class after treatment and/or a brief rest period. The nursing staff may also send students home based on nursing judgment or other situational factors.
Students are not permitted to use their personal communication devices to contact a parent for health related issues.
JH/HS
Students may present to the nurse’s office during passing periods or during a class period with a pass from a staff member. Students who meet exclusion criteria will be sent home from the nurse’s office. Exclusion criteria for school can be found here: How Sick is Too Sick Document. Students should not be sent home for health related issues without first going through the nurse’s office or as otherwise instructed by administration. Student Medications
Throop
Students may take medication at school when medically necessary.
All medications must be provided by a parent/guardian (including over the counter medications) and written consent for administration must be on file in the nurse’s office.
JH/HS
Students may take medication at school when medically necessary.
Tylenol, ibuprofen, Tums, and cough drops are provided by the nurse’s office only for those students whose parent or guardian has provided prior consent either in writing or on Harmony.
Student Allergies and Health Conditions
Parents should communicate allergy and health information to the school nurse. Any food or drink allergy that requires the substitution of a food from a school supplied meal, requires a note from a medical provider at the beginning of every school year. The note should state what the student is allergic to and should give acceptable substitutions for that food or drink.
A medical provider’s note is necessary for health conditions that require changes to your student’s typical school day (for example: physical activity restrictions, use of crutches or a wheelchair, etc). If your student misses school due to a doctor’s appointment, dental visit, optometry appointment, therapy session, or any other health related appointment, please get a note from the provider indicating the visit as the reason for the school absence.
School Based Telehealth Services for Students and Staff
We are again collaborating with Southern Indiana Community Health Care (SICHC) to provide in school virtual medical visits for our students. This is an optional service. Students must be pre registered and consented through SICHC to use the telehealth service. The following link contains more information and has a QR code if you want to register your student. Required School Immunizations
The state of Indiana requires all students who attend public school to have a specific number of certain immunizations.
2024-2025 Required School Immunizations
